Pictures That Tell Stories
I was at a party last night and I talked with a young animator who knows folks at Blue Sky Studios. She had this advice about portfolio submissions:
Sure, include some life drawings. That's basic and the reviewers will just glance at them to make sure that you can draw. But the real test is is the Character Designs. The drawings should all TELL A STORY. How? Usually by hinting at a SETTING. by including a setting, suddenly the characters are in context. It doesn't have to be complicated, but make sure that your sketches are telling a story.
